Hosea Gear

Hosea Gear is a New Zealand rugby player. He plays on the wing for the Hurricanes in the Super 15. He has played several test matches for the All Blacks. In December 2010 he won the Supreme Māori Sports Person of the Year award.

When you were little did you know you wanted to be a rugby player?

No I didn’t, I thought I was going to be a basketball player. If I wasn't a rugby player now, I'd be a basketball player.

How old were you when you started playing rugby?

I started playing rugby when I was 8 years old.

What was the first sport you played?

I played soccer before I played rugby.

What do you like best about rugby?

I like making new friends and travelling.

How many games have you won or lost?

There are too many to count – I have played over 60 games for the Hurricanes and several tests for the All Blacks.

Do you enjoy playing wing or would you rather play a different position?

Wing – I have played it all my life.

How do you warm up before a game?

I run around inside the stadium.

Who did you admire when you were a kid?

Jonah Lomu - he's still my hero.

What was your favourite subject at school?

Maths was my favourite subject.

Who are your biggest fans?

My grandmothers are my biggest fans. My mum and dad like rugby too

Did you play in the 2007 Rugby World Cup?

No.

If you had 3 wishes what would they be?

I can only think of one, to win the Rugby World Cup.
