Hot Debate
Some people think that the New Zealand flag should be changed. What do you think?
- Talk to and interview at least three other people to find out what they think. Ask each person the same questions:
- Why should we have a national flag?
- Do you think the flag should change or stay the same?
- What is your reason for saying this?
- Open the Hot Debate (Word, 28 KB)
- Read some of the other comments.
- Copy and paste them under the right heading on the following page.
- Add any new comments from your interviews to the chart.
- Use these ideas to start debating the topic: 'That the New Zealand flag needs to be changed':
- Get together with 4-6 friends who have also thought about this topic and have done the Hot Debate template.
- Half of your group will argue that we need to change the flag and the other half will argue that we don't need to change the flag.
- Things to remember:
- only one person speaks at a time
- each team takes turns
- try and use examples from countries and flags you know.

Tautohetohe
Ko tētahi whakaaro kua puta, ko te panoni i te haki o Aotearoa. He aha o whakaaro?
- Me whakawhiti kōrero koe ki ētahi atu tāngata, kia tokotoru nei, ki te rapu i a rātau whakaaro mō tēnei tū āhua. Me ōrite ngā pātai e uia atu ana ki ia tangata:
- Mā te aha te haki ā-motu?
- He aha o whakaaro, me panonitia te haki, kaua rānei?
- He aha koe i kōrero pēnā ai?
- Huakina te Hot Debate (Word, 28 KB)
- Pānuihia ngā kōrero a ētahi.
- Me kape, ka tāpiri ki raro i te ūpoko e tika ana i runga i te whārangi e whai ana.
- Ka tāpiri i ngā kōrero hou mai i ō uiuitanga ki tētahi mahere.
- Whakamahia ēnei whakaaro hei tīmata ake i tētahi take tautohetohe: 'Kia panonitia te haki o Aotearoa':
- Me mahi koe me ētahi atu hoa kia 4–6 koutou, ā, kua mahia kē e koutou tēnei kaupapa, me te tauira tautohetohe.
- Me whakarōpū koutou, ko ētahi e whakaae ana ki te kaupapa, ko tētahi kei te whakahē i te kaupapa.
- Ngā mea hei maumahara:
- kotahi anake te tangata ka kōrero i te wā
- me tauutuutu te haere o ngā kōrero
- me whakamātauhia ngā tauira mai i ngā haki o ētahi atu moutere.
